Doesn't matter what season, I'm always on the fly!
I've been lucky enough to bounce around from Midwest, Mountain West, Driftless Region, and the Southwest chasing everything that swims.
I am going to do my best to document the bites I'm chasing and the flies I'm using to make it happen.
No secrets with where I fish and what I use.

Is Montana "ran through"? Summer in the famous fly fishing town
Like many desperate fly over anglers, a trip this direction was nothing but a bucket list item, no more than a retirement pipe dream, a last chance before you die trip to experience the “land of shining mountains”. As if a wish was finally granted from years of boyhood day dreaming, A naturally inviting opportunity arose a bit sooner than expected.. and I had a choice to make. Should I spend my entire summer fishing the famous watersheds in and around Missoula Montana? Well.. Let me ask you, what would you do if you had that chance? Without further hesitation I packed up my bags and dove right in.

Alone in Grizzly Country: Grayling & Bull Trout of the North Woods

The best dry fly fishing of my life... Most people associate Alberta with Banff and Jasper, undeniably beautiful but unfortunately crowded. If you also seek out solitude and wild places, leave the crowds behind and keep heading north. Just know that search might drag you out of your comfort zone and put you face to face with real danger. Monsters in the woods are more than just fairy tales up h...
Solo Adventure in the Montana Wilderness: 3 days Fly Fishing in Wolf Country
Просмотров 47 тыс.3 месяца назад
Wolves are majestic and certainly have their role in the ecosystem.. but seeing them this close was quite the surprise.. Montana is often advertised as the wild soul of the West. The landscape is raw, the elements are unforgiving, and real monsters still meander through the forests. Going solo in the backcountry may seem dumb to most, and describing the duality of a lonely trial to those indivi...

Return of the Mack. We back. Back in the Drift, or lack thereof. It is June and the Driftless Region has sprung into the green infinity I can only remember in dreams. There will be many adventures spanning across Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. My goal is to capture new memories with old friends and places throughout the month of June. I have yet to experience or find better trout fishing East ...
Trout Adventures Fly Fishing in the West: 12 days Capturing the Beauty of Fall

Each of the four seasons presents a certain mystique, that is.. if you’re keen enough to recognize the surroundings as they shift. Capturing the subtle changes as they bleed into one another is no easy task, and all too often they will disappear through our hands like sand. So much happens and sometimes the lust for fish or excitement of the next adventure is enough to pull one’s attention away...

Brigham Young, Big game, and Beehives might come to mind when thinking about the state with the great salt lake. Jazz, Joseph, and Zion are sure to be close seconds. With the iconic four corners of the 45th state in the union, folks find it easy to put Utah in a box, but when I close my eyes and recall time spent in this interesting state, all I can see are the looming mountain scapes divided b...
Catching Trophy Cutthroat on one Epic 8-Day DIY Fly Fishing Adventure

Come along for an 8 day road trip through the heart of Alberta's most famous trout waters. Just a little over 1,000 miles on the road and almost 100 on the trail. The beauty of this province was incredible and the expansive nature of the wilderness was hard to believe. Of course there were plenty of ups and downs along the way, but it would be safe to say this was one of our best fishing trips ...
Its the best side of the Tetons? Successful Spring Fly Fishing Eastern Idaho
Просмотров 21 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Safe and secure from the traffic of the East side, this lesser known slope of the Tetons has quickly become close to my heart. The heavy influence of agriculture keeps the pace rather slow, and all the folks you run into seem to be your friend. This magic corner of the greater Yellowstone ecosystem is no secret to the devoted decibels of trout, in fact, this might be Mecca to most. Mountains me...

Every time you hit the water the changing seasons will force you to learn something new or go home empty handed. Even on your home waters or even just familiar waters for that matter, you can try a new technique or try to target differ...

The flash of orange and yellow aspen are the tell tale sign that Father Winter is clawing his way south for the season and that icy grip is only a few sunsets away. Dude, I found your channel just a couple days ago. I love your enthusiasm, and your ability to be real on the camera. I’m just getting into fly fishing, and man, I’m dreaming of going on solo trips like this. I’m a CO native thank the lord and maybe I’ll run into you on the streams! 🎉
I should have paid more attention to the end of this video. After watching this video and a couple others you did in the area I drove 650 miles out there and fished a couple of days. I crawled up the trial at Cebolla Mesa and Little Arsenic. Both kicked my butt. Enjoyed the trip though.
you should go to Washington state next there is great trout fishing in the mountains and the Olympic peninsula.
I'm loving your videos, but where's the funny stuff, the bloopers
I was depressed for a long time and I looked useless and bad. This music helps me relieve fatigue and stress. Thanks for sharing. Whoever is reading this comment, I wish you success, health, love and happiness!
I'm a beginner and would love to know where some of the places are, especially Colorado
This is fascinating. Summer steelhead spawn in the fall, but, 'bows' spawn in the spring? Huh, they say that a hallmark of domestication is that reproduction occurs year-round, but this place is wild. Bull trout, brook trout, whitefish, angler turned cryptozoologist, because of fascination and a map. I just opened Cutthroat; Native Trout of the West, by Trotter, total mystery with plenty of, "Something left over from the Pleistocene, and earlier." There was a neat project they did removing dams on the Elwha, not long ago. That charcoal should be around for a while, it resists decomposition by decomposers - a mark left in the soil that is essentially left forever, unless it is taken out by a more rigorous fire sometime later. Perhaps the roasted remains in a "desolated" watershed is how Earth ties-up carbon originally from an atmospheric carbon dioxide; ancient wildfires allow both the angler and fish a steady source of life-sustaining breath? The roasted forest around here always makes me think, what's that shadow, a bear? You and Sam toasted a home-brew (4:14), cheers! I'd be seriously off-point the whole time; beer and bear = me and nervous.
Ran through? Are you calling Montana a 304??
Southern Alberta is literally the busiest/best fly fishing Alberta has to offer.
I'm in a moment of blahh. I can't figure it out, somewhere between recreational fireworks-induced sleep deprivation, and stuck waiting for the phone to simultaneously ring and buzz, signaling that one project is done and the next is underway. I'm listening to this, tying a wingless Adams (too small for the wings and its thread to anchor it on tiny wire) on a barbless Timco 100bl, size 22. The Western brook trout, I can relate to, can't relate to reality. Summer is killing me; regular intervals of lightning keeps preventing me from actually casting a line on water. Much thanks for sharing this, my crutch for the afternoon. You should know how bad I want to go to visit Colorado. Dude, you are on the Continental Divide, which is "grand" on every level! Absolute beauty, even the beetle-killed trees. Here is one for reading and photos, 49 Trout Streams of Southern Colorado, by Williams and McPhail. I'd describe your perfect-weather trip and videography as simply 'candy.'
This video convinced me. I just finished up booking a trip to the Bitterroot for October. I'll be staying in Hamilton. I can't wait!
That rod and reel is your grandfather going on the adventures with you he’s there with you all the time
I love your videos and I look up to you in a since bc I’m from Missouri and iv always wanted to go trout fishing I try to here in Missouri but there isn’t much spots and iv never gotten to hook into one one day I’ll make a trip and get my first
Your experience in Georgia is like my times on the lower Rio Grande, at Pilar, and White Rock Canyon, minus the awesome Georgia cabin. Otters, flood, season-stretcher, no fish on the line; I get it. Upstream of Pilar, no problem, just gotta drive and hike, and well, two hours from home is more than I can hack, need shelter or it is just a hard push from sun up to sun down, or it is the heat of summer, when I really should be up in the mountains where it is not a million degrees. Plus, the fly fishing folks told me about the river otters, and wish I didn't know that trout are thought to find their way into the bellies of Northern Pike, which are not found in New Mexico's mountain streams. Corn cans, killer-hooks with barbs on the point and shank all tied-up in the willows, and debris-flows that include fallen trees and empty sun-bleached aluminum cans of macro brews. I actually appreciate the bait fishers, minus the trash, but, the word-of-mouth of otters crushed my spirit. Trout park. But, a trout park with clear evidence of a recent, scary-looking-flood. But, you guys did really well when you visited the better part of the Rio Grande gorge. I'm content being defeated, on the lower(ish) Rio Grande, casting dry flies in February. But, I'd be stoked doing a serious grind in Georgia, just not here at home. Here, I shamelessly make up for my lack of nymph and streamer abilities by going to a smaller streams, where there are too many snags below the surface to seriously nymph, at least when the water temp is up.
You should put tying this streamer on your site, I'd like to try it.
what rod is that
Good video. Gotta get out west. Fishin in the Mo and Driftless are great but now I see that the west is just an endless fishing opportunity.
There is a lot to see out there!
What a wonderful film! I loved your honest transparency as I got to relive my own flyfishing adventures. And the background music was perfect! This was a gift for me--thank you!
Hell yeah! So glad you liked it!
In that setting even the bad is good. Thanks for sharing the good, the bad and the beautiful.
Awesome video! Inspired me to go
Amazing trip brother!
Going to take up inland trout fishing (retiring in the Driftless), been watching lots of videos. Love your youthful exuberance and appreciation for everything that area has to offer...year round.
Your videos never fail to amaze me! FLY ALL SZN BABY
it's cool to see you up in AB - That over pressured river was the first river I ever had a big day on (5 fish) I guess perspective is everything but it will always have a soft spot for me. Much better in September onward the crowds dissipate
Excellent as usual. Solid stuff.
Thank you so much!! Appreciate the support!
Love it! Bear Rivers are my favorite cutt. Haven’t caught one in their native range yet, but they’re stocked all over our lakes in Wyoming and get quite large.
Killer video as always Mike, I’m a Kansas boy living up in MT now. Both the north fork and the big Blackfoot are my two favorite streams up here so it was awesome to see them from your POV. Just happy to see that my favorite access point wasn’t in this video haha. Keep up the awesome work and looking forward to see what trips are on the docket for this year!
You are a great videographer! Keep making fly tying videos this one was great! I’ll subscribe for sure ! Your enthusiasm and personality and your knowledge are awesome. Keep making videos!
How does one know when the conditions are right to wet wade?
Thankfull to live here in Hamilton a 45 minute drive from Missoula 6th gen Montanan I’ve been here my whole life and always find new places to fish
The possibilities must be endless!
Loved the video! I always do! Dm’d you on Instagram with proposition. Tight lines!
I’m lucky to live in western montana
The Colors on those Trout are Mind Boggling. 😯
You mention St. Louis in the first part of this video. Do you live in Missouri..?
Great summary of fly fishing the Missoula Area. So many waters ... so little time. Any sign of Grizzly on the Blackfoot?
I didnt see any!
I'm a Bass Fisherman used to heavy tackle, big ass lures and at times, Braid as heavy as 80lb test. Yet I watched and enjoyed every single moment of this video. I've fished some beautiful waters in Quebec for Smallmouth but even they cannot hold a candle to the striking colors of those Trout. You are a genuine Storyteller and I found your words very relaxing. Thank you for making me stop and listen.
Wow! That is awesome to hear! I am so glad you enjoyed this video.
Hey Mike. Love all your videos. What brand is the chest camera? Doesn't look like a GoPro.
Howdy! It’s a GoPro!
Maybe catch and release a Liz Chaney you idiots
That rainbow at 9:00 is amazing! There are TONS more like that in the Blue River in Silverthorne. It's a very popular stretch of water, but the trout there are HUGE
That looks like a good time. I've never been to Montana, but I hope to someday. I hope to go fishing in a lot of states. But yeah, it looks like you guys had fun. P.S. Again, if you'd like to be a guest speaker at one of our fly fishing organization's meetings, we'd be happy to have you.
Thank you so much!! Toss me a message on instagram and I’m sure we can work something out!
Been watching your videos for months now and it’s always a pleasure to see your trips! I wish though you would make them shorter… maybe in parts or something. You’ll probably get more likes this way too! But your videos have inspired me to take my own journeys thank you 🙏
But I could see how trying to make a huge trip into a short video could be hard.
Its very hard to tell a full story like this in a bunch of small videos
@@FLYALLSZN I agree. I want it ALL..!
i wish i had dreams comparable to watching projects like this man…
Simply exciting seeing you play Brad Pitt out of A River Runs Through It! What kind of leader were you using?
yea buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That Kansas hat is so sick! Moving out of Kansas for the first time next month to Utah.
Hell yeah!! It’s on of my favorites
“Brought boots to a boot fight.” 😂. Hope you plan on writing a book some day, you’re a good storyteller.
Thank you so much!!
Great video. Have never fished the Eleven but I will this fall for sure. Thanks for the tips...
